Meditation 101MEDITATION 101- A BEGINNER’S WAY TO MEDITATION

Although most people have heard about the multiple and profound benefits of meditation, they still find it difficult to start and stick to a regular meditation practice.

As a yoga teacher and an advance meditation practitioner, I have begun to investigate why this is. I have heard many reasons from people as to why they are not able to start or continue a meditation practice including the following:

“I don’t have the time.”

“I don’t know what to do.”

“I can’t keep my brain still.”

Many times people will start with a meditation practice that is too advanced for them. This ends up creating a sense of failure from not understanding what to do or how to do it. This is by no means the person’s fault; it’s just the only approach out there that they had found to start a meditation practice-until now.

Meditation 101 is unique because it doesn’t have an “all or nothing” approach. It is recognized that in our society people tend to be crazy busy. While being crazy busy, meditation becomes important to help get people back in touch with themselves and reduce their stress. However, if meditation is viewed as a huge time burden the majority of people who have never meditated will never even try. This is why my approach of starting slowly, for short periods of time, is different than other practices. The most important factor is to JUST START!

My Meditation 101 program is based on the same principles that a fitness program is based on.

Meditation directly affects our brains. The brain will become stronger in the practice of meditation if it is not worked too hard, too fast, and has rest periods to recover and process the new information. I have chosen three specific concentration meditations for this beginner program because they work together to strengthen a person’s attention and focus, and start to clear the chatter in one’s mind which results in less stress. In the Meditation 101 Six Week Immersion Program the duration of your meditations will increase from 5 minutes at the beginning of the program to 20 minutes by the end of the program. Upon completion of the program, you will be ready and capable of taking on a more advanced meditation practice of a modality you choose.

This program has been a proven way for people to usher one’s self into a sound practice so that it becomes a life style choice, not a passing phase.
